sign the petition to tell bush the obvious: Sending jobs overseas is not Good. Take Action: Take Action on the Economy

My Message to the president.
"Not only have you sent high tech jobs overseas, You have failed to create new jobs in the areas devastated by these companies packing up. Places like Western Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania and all throughout the midwest.

You've told the unemployed workers that the problem is they are not smart enough. That we need training. But I'm trained to do a job, the problem is the jobs are gone. So now what do we do, train for 3 years for a new career that's going to be gone in 4 or 5 years?

We Americans need to change the way we do business. We need to stop figuring out the hard work of inventing and streamlining a business, and then letting all the hardworking americans who poured their heart and soul into the latest project, letting them become expendable, and not really rewarding them for their extra work to lead the way.

Also as president, and as a coutry we need to be dedicated to jobs everywhere, not just in big cities, and not in only the major cities. When the economy shrank, the jobs in the outlying areas shrank, and moved back to the major cities. We need to be committed to making the entire country prosperous, not just the super culture of wall street bankers, and already wealthy.

Well I wanted to take some time while i'm bored silly to write down some observations on management. The question of good management has been foremost on my mind lately, and I want to start figuring out the actual rules of good management. I see bad management every day, and I want to write down my own rules, so that I can abide by them.

Rule 1. - Be Decisive
Decisions need to made as quickly as possible. This will earn you respect. Decisions that go unmade cause uncertainty in the organization. When you waffle on a decision, you leave everyone in your organization who are ready to follow you with no direction in which to move. That can be a part of the ultimate failure in management, the clueless organization.

It is crucial to not procrastinate decisions. Procrastinated decisions can often end up as decisions that end up never getting made. Procastinating, and failing to make a decision are unnacepptable. You must act as a strong leader, doing what must be done for the good of all your subordinates. Failing to make these decisions is a sign of weakness, and disrespectful to the employees and subordinates who have put you into the position to make the decisions. Indecision is worse than the wrong decision. You must make a decision, and be free and open about the pros and cons that led you to the decision. You must also try to not be arrogant, leaving the decision open to discussion (although not whining and back biting).

Another key facet of management that comes into discussion when we talk about decision making is documentation, but in the most general sense, making all official decisions completely available.

There are few things worse than the half implemented policy that no one has the guts to write down, and send out as "the word", end of story.

Decisions and rules make up the entire framework within which your company operates. If you do not make the decisions widely available and documented, they beccome the thing of urban legend. They become less decisive. If your official decisions are passed on only by word of mouth, then they become subject to interpretation, and twisting.

The best way to make information, in this case decisions, completely available is to use mutltiple forms of media.
1. Email - this is the favorite way to send out new policies. It is also the laziest. It is a great way to send out policy, but cannot be used alone. How do new employees learn all the existing policies?
How are employees supposed to check the policies at a later date? Are they supposed to archive them for you? What if they didn't receive 1 email, what if they deleted it?

2. Website - A website is a great tool, especially for archiving old data. It must be properly organized and easily searchable.

Few things are more frustrating than hearing "It's on the website" and then going to the website and being completely unable to find it.

3. Paper - Paper is horrible for all but one or two reasons. Paper copies never, ever change. if a policy is updated, or removed, or added - the paper copy never changes. And what's worse is the people who love their little paper bibles, they believe the copy they have is absolutely accurate.

The only use for paper is for material that should be taken home, or otherwise portable for study.
Putitng a last modified date would be good, but still requires reprinting every time a change is made.

Also paper copies are not easily accessible. An internet site is accessible from anywhere, even at distant sites, when people are not at their desk or office where they have gathered all their materials.

Remember, failing to properly document your decisions makes your decisiveness inaccessible to your staff. Therefore, they may be unaware of your guidance, leading them to question your leadership.

Here is why the patriot act is so dangerous. With no legal definition of terrorism, anyone who threatens the party in power can be dragged off to secret questioning without rights.

This is the second possible case of the patriot act being used against anti-war activists.

This is just plain despicable.
