Ralph Nader will run in 2004
So in perhaps the most important election in recent times, Nader has decided not to back down and eliminate the possibility of a repeat of the 2000 election.
So why do I still love him?
Because the problem with America is not Ralph Nader, it our sad excuse for democracy.
Why do we, America, a place we believe to be the home of the modern democracy, have one of the least effective democracies in the world?
Most of Europe has functioning multi party democracies. Systems where a vote for a smaller splinter party is not thrown away. Never mind the complete bullshit of the winner take all electoral college system.
America's democracy, mostly when it comes to presidential elections has become a damn shame. And the problem is that smart voters, a group in which I'd like to include myself, play within the game because they have no other choice.
If we vote for nader, our vote gets thrown away in the system.
WE MUST CHANGE AMERICA'S DEMOCRACY!
I hope that the democratic candidate will push for a change to the federal presidential election process.
We need to abolish the electoral college, where california is uber alles.
We need to institute some sort of 1st, 2nd 3rd choice system, where we can allow votes for who we want to win first rather than our current system where we have to guess who has the best chance of beating the worst candidate.
We need a ballot that allows voters to rank candidates.
that way I could vote for nader first, kerry second and even maybe the libertarians and the socialist parties before my final ranking for bush.
This way if nader only receives 5% of the vote, he is eliminated and his voters are allowed to throw their votes behind the democratic candidate.
Oh yeah, and the other reason I still love nader: I don't think most of us nader voters will vote for him this year.
We need to bring about a new independent party involving these great independent leaders like ralph nader and john mcCain. People who are really fighting for the people of america against the rich and powerfule corporations and their owners.
